The Fleming Roosters Touch Rugby revival tournament is set to take place at St Thomas Primary School grounds in Lautoka on September 28, with 10 spots available for men’s teams. Committee member Misa Rokovua shared that the entry fee for each team is $100. So far, only two teams have confirmed their participation, although they have yet to complete their registration.
Rokovua emphasized that this tournament aims to reignite interest in touch rugby within Lautoka, providing a positive outlet for youths and diverting them from drugs, nightlife, and petty crime. He encourages everyone to join the event, even if they do not have a team, highlighting it as a family fun day.
The organizing committee is actively seeking sponsors to help fund the tournament, as most of the financial support is currently coming from their own fundraising efforts. Rokovua noted that attracting teams to participate has been a challenge. Additionally, there are plans to include a Police team in the tournament to raise awareness about the ongoing drug crisis affecting the youth in the community.
