The Morris Hedstrom site in Labasa, which has been unused and has served as a car park for years, is set for a major redevelopment. The Labasa Town Council has approved plans for a new shopping mall, marking a significant change in the local commercial scene.

This site, once a thriving retail location, was destroyed by fire 15 years ago and has remained abandoned since, with only debris from the previous structure still visible. Residents and business proprietors have long awaited a decision regarding the future of this prime location.

Samu Ligairi, special administrator of the Labasa Town Council, confirmed that the plans for the shopping mall have been sanctioned. He noted that the area is currently being cordoned off in preparation for the project.

The multimillion-dollar complex will be developed by Carpenters, the parent company of Morris Hedstrom. Ligairi expressed enthusiasm about the transformation of the site into a modern shopping complex, which is expected to create numerous job opportunities and stimulate the local economy.

Construction is expected to commence soon, with preliminary work already in progress.
