Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, is currently participating in the 65th International Sugar Organization (ISO) Council Meeting and the 33rd ISO Seminar in London, taking place from November 26th to 29th, 2024. This year’s seminar focuses on the theme “Sustainable Solutions for Sugar & Energy,” highlighting the industry’s commitment to sustainable practices.
During the seminar, Minister Singh engaged in discussions with several international companies to enhance the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s (FSC) standing in the global market. A significant meeting was held with Tate and Lyle, a branch of the American Sugar Refinery (ASR) Group. The conversation centered on finding sustainable solutions that align with the increasing demand for environmentally responsible practices in international trade.
The discussions had historical significance, considering that Tate & Lyle was once Fiji’s principal sugar importer during the period of advantageous pricing agreements with the European Union.
This initiative is promising for Fiji’s sugar industry, as it may pave the way for reviving past successful partnerships and adapting to modern market demands focused on sustainability. With continued efforts in establishing strong international relations, Fiji’s sugar sector can look forward to a brighter and more sustainable future.
