Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, is currently participating in the 65th International Sugar Organization (ISO) Council Meeting and the 33rd ISO Seminar taking place in London from November 26 to 29, 2024. The theme for this year’s seminar is “Sustainable Solutions for Sugar & Energy.”

During the seminar, Minister Singh engaged with several international companies to enhance the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s (FSC) presence in the global market. Notably, he held discussions with representatives from Tate and Lyle, a subsidiary of the American Sugar Refinery (ASR) Group. The focus of these conversations was on strategies for achieving sustainability in the global sugar market, an increasingly crucial requirement for international trade.

The discussions also carried a historical significance, as Tate & Lyle was once the largest importer of Fijian sugar during the era of preferential pricing agreements with the European Union.

In summary, this engagement marks a positive step towards reviving impactful relationships within the global sugar market, aiming to foster sustainability and restore Fiji’s standing in the industry. This collaborative effort could lead to significant advancements for the Fiji sugar sector.
