The sons of former Fiji welterweight champion Tevita Vakalalabure will be competing in the South Pacific Boxing Promotions (SPBP) event in Labasa on Friday, August 10.
SPBP promoter Fred Chand confirmed that Vakalalabure’s sons, Kimo and Kali, are part of the event. “They are training with their dad at Natewa Bay,” Chand noted.
In an exhibition match, Kimo will face Nasoni Rawaci of Bua, while Kali will compete against Junior Saula of Labasa in a four-round contest.
The promotion is part of SPBP’s efforts to revive boxing in Vanua Levu. “The last boxing programme in Labasa was nine years ago,” Chand added.
The Northern region has a history of producing renowned boxers such as Isimeli Radrodro, Atunaisa Camaibau, Inia Catarogo, Samuela Vocea, Sikeli Veitala, Lorima Rakula, Noa Bukai, Vakalalabure, Atama Raqili, Nat Ledua, Jare Lalakai, Bobby Shah, Setefano Vasuibau, Sharamat Shah, among others.
The main event features Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill facing Roy ‘Tsunami’ Ser of Vanuatu. The programme also includes three title fights.
