Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, has emphasized the need to fill 55 vacant traditional leadership positions in Macuata Province. During a recent meeting of the Macuata Provincial Council held in Sasa Village, Mr. Vasu pointed out that, while 88 percent of traditional titles have been filled, 12 percent remain unfilled, which he believes hinders effective leadership and slows regional development.
Mr. Vasu stated, “It is crucial that we fill these vacant positions to ensure the continued development and unity of our tribes and districts.” He further encouraged local leaders to set a strong example by delivering excellent service within their communities. He also stressed the importance of engaging younger generations in land utilization and resource management.
“To create sustainable wealth, we need to maximize our resources and turn them into opportunities for business and income generation for our families,” he said, urging the community to utilize available resources more effectively. He highlighted organizations like Merchant Finance, Fijian Holdings, and the iTaukei Trust Fund as potential partners to support economic initiatives.
Mr. Vasu’s remarks underline a commitment to fostering robust leadership and encouraging active community participation in securing the future prosperity of Macuata.
This call to action could signal a new chapter for Macuata Province, where filling these leadership gaps may enhance decision-making and community cohesion, ultimately fostering a more prosperous future for all its residents. By re-engaging traditional leaders and utilizing local resources wisely, the province can work towards sustainable development and stronger economic growth.
