St. John Primary School in Wailoku has reinstated its inter-house athletics event for the first time in 14 years, generating excitement among students, parents, and staff. Nearly 300 students from primary and kindergarten levels participated eagerly in this long-awaited event.
School Head, Joseva Vere, highlighted the importance of this occasion, stating, “The inter-house competition for this school had been inactive for about 14 years. It was only last year that we discussed with the staff about reviving it, as we realized that this is something the students have been missing. Most of them are participating for the very first time.”
Vere underscored the school’s commitment to nurturing the talents of students, many of whom may possess athletic abilities that have gone unnoticed due to the lack of the inter-house event over the years. “Who knows, we might have some children who are very talented in athletics but have not been given the opportunity to showcase their skills. That is why we are here today,” he remarked.
This year, the school’s focus remains on its own activities, and they have opted out of participating in zonal competitions. However, Vere mentioned that the possibility of joining zonal events in future years remains open.
