Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki has emphasized the urgent need to enhance local netball competitions this year, highlighting it as a key area for the sport’s improvement. She asserted that stronger tournaments within the country are essential for assembling a broader training squad for national teams.
Sorovaki outlined the importance of intensifying competitions to facilitate player selections for high-performance teams. “We need to intensify our competitions to allow for selection of players into high-performance teams,” she stated. She also stressed the importance of maintaining clear pathways from club-level competitions to national contests, ensuring that quality games are hosted, which provides a wider pool for selection at various levels.
Additionally, Sorovaki pointed out that grassroots development is crucial for the sport’s growth, and the federation remains committed to collaborating closely with stakeholders to support districts in organizing games and building capacity among members.
In related news, the extended squad for Fiji Pearls is set to regroup, with fitness testing scheduled at the HPU Gym in Laucala at 8:30 am. A total of 56 players have been selected for the squad, under the guidance of interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce.
