The Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital has been revitalized, thanks to a collaborative initiative involving the FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical. This refurbishment is part of the Wonderful Neighbour Project, which aims to enhance healthcare in the Western Division.
The Wonderful Neighbour initiative encourages employees from FIJI Water and NPDL to suggest and execute impactful projects within their communities. Each participant is provided with FJ$100 and eight hours of paid work to contribute meaningfully, strengthening connections between the companies and the communities they serve.
Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “The work done at the Children’s Ward by the FIJI Water Foundation will benefit many families for years to come.” The improvements made include renovating the waiting area and restroom facilities, donating a new washing machine and dryer, and installing recreational equipment like a swing set and four tricycles for the children.
Additional enhancements involved extensive cleaning and renovation efforts, such as water blasting, painting walls and ceilings, tiling, installing new doors and louvers, and landscaping tasks. A dedicated team of 120 employees devoted three days to these important upgrades.
The FIJI Water Foundation’s Director, Semi Lotawa, highlighted the collective impact of their employees, noting that this year, 798 individuals contributed to 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects across Fiji, accumulating over 4,500 hours of volunteer service. This latest initiative at Lautoka Hospital reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering positive change and a sustainable future for the people of Fiji.
This initiative is a testament to the power of community engagement and corporate responsibility, demonstrating how collective efforts can significantly uplift local healthcare facilities and create a brighter future for children in need.
