The Fijian government has assigned the iTaukei Affairs Ministry with the responsibility of examining the iTaukei Administration to enhance its effectiveness and to bolster the economic and social welfare of the iTaukei community in Fiji.
Ifereimi Vasu, the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, has received reports regarding this review and the creation of Provincial Economic Units from consultancy teams led by Dr. Jone Baledrokadroka and Dr. Jone Lako.
These reports were developed after four months of consultations across the nation, engaging various stakeholders including government and non-government organizations, businesses, civil society groups, academics, and provincial councils.
Vasu expressed his appreciation for the thorough efforts of the review teams and stated that the recommendations would be forwarded to the Great Council of Chiefs, the iTaukei Affairs Board, and the Cabinet for their deliberation.
