The Ministry of Education has announced the revival of interviews for Year 13 students interested in pursuing careers in teaching. This initiative, designed in collaboration with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), aims to enhance the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro stressed the significance of a thorough selection process to attract candidates who exhibit both passion and the necessary qualifications for the teaching profession. This initiative is a key aspect of the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which fosters collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education.

The Denarau Declaration’s goal is to ensure graduates possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for success in classrooms across the nation. Students who meet eligibility criteria can apply for scholarships under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which cater to various Bachelor of Education programs and specialized fields such as Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts.

The deadline for submitting online applications to the TSLS is set for January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will receive notifications regarding interview dates and venues via email and phone calls.

This initiative represents a positive step forward in enhancing the quality of education in Fiji. By focusing on the rigorous selection of future educators, the Ministry aims to build a stronger foundation for the nation’s educational system. It not only provides aspiring teachers with opportunities for growth but also reinforces the commitment to cultivating qualified and passionate individuals in the teaching profession.

In summary, the reintroduction of interviews signifies an important advancement in teacher recruitment, ensuring that future educators are well-prepared and enthusiastic about their vital roles in shaping the future of Fiji’s youth.
