Revamping Safety: New Regulations Set to Transform Business Compliance in Fiji

The Cabinet has approved modifications to the Food Safety Regulation 2009, the Health and Safety at Work (Administration) Regulations 1997, and the development of the National Fire Service (Fire Safety Compliance Certificate) Regulations 2024.

These updates to the regulations aim to achieve several objectives, including:

– Streamlining, defining, and publishing the payment structure for the National Fire Authority (NFA), National Occupational Health and Safety Services (NOHSS), and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services concerning upfront payment collection.
– Allowing the acceptance of digitally generated outputs for the NFA, NOHSS, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. This includes compliance reports, letters, and certificates that may feature e-signatures.
– Updating the existing renewal period to implement a cyclical approach.

These regulations are aligned with the Starting a Business Subsystem (SABs), which serves as the first component of the BusinessNOW Fiji Project. This initiative aims to integrate relevant e-services from over 16 government agencies into a single digital platform.
