Revamping Healthcare: Australia and Fiji Collaborate on CWM Hospital Master Plan

Johnstaff International Development, an Australian-owned organization focused on international development in the Pacific, has secured the contract for the renovation of the CWM Master Plan.

During the announcement of the lead consultant for the project, Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, emphasized the ongoing partnership between Australia and Fiji to address various challenges. The development of the master plan is expected to take approximately 12 to 14 months before the renovation work commences.

The CWM infrastructure master plan, costing $14.7 million, is funded by Australia, with Johnstaff International Development chosen to lead the project in collaboration with several partners, including GHD, Silver Thomas Hanley, and International SOS Australasia.

Wong also stated that Australia would assist in conducting an engineering assessment of the current conditions of the CWM Hospital. “We are committed to performing a detailed engineering assessment of the existing hospital buildings to ensure that the facility can continue to serve the people of Fiji while the master plan is being developed and implemented,” she noted.

Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, expressed gratitude for the support in improving the nation’s health sector. Wong reiterated Australia’s dedication to working with Fiji to enhance services for its citizens. “Australia is pleased to contribute to this effort, and we value the strong partnership with your country. We are committed to collaborating to create better services, more inclusive opportunities, and achieve peace and prosperity for our families, our people, and the region,” she added.

The planned redevelopment aims to establish a modern, resilient, and patient-centered CWM hospital.
