The Health and Medical Services Ministry is making significant strides in upgrading health facilities across the country, as reported by Assistant Minister Penioni Ravunawa. He highlighted that these initiatives began following the inception of the Coalition Government and are part of a broader strategy to rectify the considerable deterioration of healthcare infrastructure experienced over decades.

Ravunawa expressed gratitude to the Minister of Finance for allocating funds specifically for the refurbishment of health facilities nationwide. He emphasized that many facilities are in dire need of upgrades, but progress is being made. Notable renovations have already been completed in various areas, including the Bukuya Health Centre and the Nagatagata Nursing Station, with additional work continuing in regions like Nadarivatu and Rakiraki.

Efforts are particularly notable in the maritime areas of northern and southern Lau, where health facilities are receiving urgent attention. This proactive approach mirrors previous sentiments expressed by Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, who also affirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructures, highlighting the institutional allocation for renovations and acknowledging the role of healthcare workers in driving improvements with limited resources.

The focus on upgrading health facilities signifies a positive commitment to enhancing healthcare services, addressing the long-standing neglect those facilities have faced, and ultimately aiming to improve public health outcomes across Fiji. As renovated centers begin to provide better services, they will not only meet current needs but will also lay a foundation for sustainable healthcare in the future.
