Revamped Ratu Sukuna Park: A New Heart for Suva

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica urged all Fijians to take collective responsibility for the upkeep of the newly renovated Ratu Sukuna Park, which had an investment of $7 million. At the park’s inauguration event on Monday evening, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

He noted that the revamped park showcases a significant transformation from its original state, representing the nation’s progress and dedication to urban development. The upgraded park now includes modern facilities such as a new podium, stylish night lighting, contemporary park furnishings, a digital screen with surround sound, and enhanced landscaping that harmonizes concrete with greenery.

Additionally, Mr. Kamikamica mentioned a new water feature that complements the monument of Ratu Sukuna, contributing to a tranquil atmosphere within the park.

He described the park as more than just a green area; it serves as a peaceful enclave within the busy city, where individuals can relax, connect with loved ones, and embrace fresh opportunities. He emphasized that parks like Ratu Sukuna are crucial not only for recreation but also for the health and well-being of communities.

“Such spaces allow families to come together, children to play, and individuals to find comfort in nature. They enhance the quality of our cities, transforming them into environments where people can thrive, not just live and work,” he stated.

Mr. Kamikamica called for continued collaboration to transform Suva into a city that prioritizes nature, reaffirming its position as one of the top cities for environmental health according to the Global Cities Index.
