The Fiji Police Force is currently conducting an investigation into a serious accident that occurred on Friday involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus carrying six passengers. The incident happened around noon near Lokuya Hill, past the Verata Junction, while the vehicles were travelling along Kings Road towards Korovou Town, Tailevu North.
Authorities have reported that both drivers, along with the six passengers, were promptly taken to Korovou Hospital for medical treatment following the collision. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, particularly regarding public service vehicles (PSVs).
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees traffic management, has emphasized the importance of vigilance for all PSV drivers. He noted that this marks the second incident within the week involving public service vehicles, expressing concern that innocent passengers are increasingly becoming victims in such accidents.
In light of these events, the police urge drivers to exercise caution and prioritize road safety to prevent future incidents and protect passengers.
While the situation is serious, it serves as a reminder for all drivers to adhere to safety regulations and for the community to support one another in fostering safer road practices. This could lead to improved safety measures and ultimately a reduction in traffic-related incidents in the future.
