Restoring Freedom: Fiji’s Path to Democracy

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, affirmed that the current Government has fulfilled its commitment to restore freedom to the people of Fiji by ending the oppressive rule of two leaders.

During the National Federation Party Annual Convention, Professor Prasad emphasized the Government’s efforts to rebuild a democratic and accountable system in Fiji. He stated, “We have kept our promise to eliminate fear and intimidation, and we have also promised to listen and consult with the public.”

He urged party members to support this ongoing process and to continue backing the Government in its mission to improve the nation.

As Fiji’s oldest political party, the National Federation Party has endured through various challenges while other political entities have faded away. Professor Prasad highlighted their survival is rooted in a shared vision for Fiji and a commitment to its progress.

He declared a focus on unity, peace, and aiding the underprivileged, with the aim of enhancing their lives. The party, he stated, has long prepared for the opportunity to govern and provide transparent and compassionate leadership to strengthen and uplift Fiji.

Prasad concluded by expressing the goal of creating a better, more equitable, and just society for all Fijians.
