A well-known resort on the Coral Coast is conducting a thorough investigation after an incident of alleged “alcohol poisoning” led to the hospitalization of seven women. The Ministry of Health and local police have commenced inquiries, with toxicology results anticipated within two to three days.
Dr. Jemesa Tudrau, the permanent secretary for Health, has advised caution, emphasizing that the definitive cause of the incident has yet to be established. Likewise, Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, has urged people to refrain from speculation until more information is available.
The affected individuals, which included four Australians, one American, and two foreign residents, showed symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues after consuming a cocktail at the resort on Saturday. They were subsequently admitted to Aspen Medical Hospital in Lautoka.
In light of the hospitalizations, the resort’s director of human resources, Nitin Goundar, confirmed that they have also initiated an internal investigation. They possess CCTV footage, bar records, and other relevant data as part of their review. Goundar noted that the incident appears to be isolated, as only seven guests were affected despite others being served the same drink that day. He assured that the ingredients used in the beverages had been rigorously checked and were also present in other drinks served without incident.
Warwick Fiji has been operational for 45 years without any similar incidents and maintains that its staff undergoes international training and adhere to strict hygiene protocols. Goundar stated that they are cooperating with the relevant authorities and stressed that overall resort operations remain unaffected, with guests continuing to enjoy their stay.
Despite the heightened attention from the media, the resort emphasizes its commitment to guest safety and satisfaction as its top priority.
This situation underscores the importance of prompt investigations into health and safety concerns in tourist areas, ensuring that such incidents are addressed effectively so that the trust of visitors can be maintained.
In a hopeful light, the resort is taking proactive measures to resolve the incident while simultaneously prioritizing the well-being of all guests, which may foster stronger assurance and trust moving forward.
