Toxicology reports have established that no illegal substances or methanol were present in the cocktails served to the seven guests who fell ill at the Warwick Fiji Resort and Spa on Saturday. Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka announced the results during a press conference last night as investigations by the Ministry of Health and the police are ongoing.
The affected guests, all women, included four Australians, an American, and two locals, who experienced nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms after drinking Pina Colada at the hotel restaurant. They were admitted to Aspen Medical Hospital in Lautoka for treatment and have since been discharged.
Mr. Gavoka expressed relief upon receiving the toxicology results, emphasizing that no harmful substances were found in the drink samples. He highlighted the swift medical response as a crucial factor in the guests’ recovery.
The minister stated that the news of no alcohol poisoning is encouraging for Fiji, particularly in light of its tourism sector. He reassured the international community that the health and safety of visitors are a top priority for the country.
This incident, despite its alarming nature, concluded positively with the full recovery of those affected. It serves as a reminder of the importance of health and safety standards within the tourism industry, ensuring that visitors can enjoy their experiences without worry.
