Villagers in Waiqori and Dakuiloa on Oneata Island, Lau Province, have expressed heartfelt gratitude for the government’s timely relief efforts following the devastation brought by Tropical Cyclone Rae. A dedicated team from the government’s joint operations unit has worked tirelessly to distribute aid to 40 households, ensuring that 20 homes in each village received essential supplies to aid in their recovery.

Team leader Osea Ravukivuki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that those most in need have access to assistance. In addition to the distribution of emergency supplies, health officials have been actively engaged, providing dental services to the community and addressing pressing healthcare concerns.

The operations team has also conducted important assessments in various sectors, particularly agriculture, which is critical for the livelihood of the villagers on Oneata Island. This aligns with broader recovery actions across the region, where similar initiatives have highlighted community resilience, especially in areas like Lakeba, which has faced its own challenges from the cyclone.

The relief mission is set to continue with plans to deliver further aid to the neighboring communities of Moce and Komo. These ongoing efforts reflect a collective spirit and a strong commitment to support not only immediate recovery but also long-term resilience in the face of future natural disasters. The response of the communities and local authorities emphasizes unity and strength, providing a hopeful outlook for the future as they rebuild and restore their way of life.

Overall, the collaborative efforts exhibited during this challenging time reinforce the notion that, together, communities can rise above adversity and achieve a meaningful recovery.
