Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor in Tavakubu, has successfully managed her business for eight years while bravely fighting breast cancer. With the support of her family, she continues to operate two market stalls, showcasing her resilience and determination.
Ms. Chandra’s journey began with selling pineapples on the street, and through hard work, she became a well-respected vendor in Lautoka. Her experience has not only marked her as a prominent figure in the local women vendor community but has also highlighted her strength in the face of adversity.
“Throughout my cancer treatment, my family has been my backbone. My mum and son have always stood by me,” she shared. Ms. Chandra acknowledges the dedication of the women around her, stating, “All the women I’ve met here are very hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of.”
