Resilience in the Face of Adversity: One Vendor’s Inspiring Journey

Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor based in Tavakubu, has not only established a thriving business over the past eight years but is also courageously fighting breast cancer while overseeing two market stalls.

Despite her health challenges, Ms. Chandra continues to operate her business with the help of her family. Her journey began with selling pineapples on the street, but she has since grown into a well-respected vendor within the Lautoka community, recognized among her peers as a determined and hardworking woman.

The fight against breast cancer has been tough for Ms. Chandra, yet her resolve remains unshaken. “My family has been my support system throughout my cancer treatment. My mum and my son have always stood by my side,” she shared.

Starting her enterprise eight years ago, she has received much respect and admiration from other women vendors. “All the women I’ve met here are incredibly hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of,” she added.

Her story embodies perseverance, community support, and triumph, serving as an inspiring example to others. Ms. Chandra’s commitment to her family, business, and personal recovery truly reflects a spirit of resilience.
