Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has illustrated remarkable resilience and determination on her path to success. Last Friday, the 26-year-old celebrated her graduation with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga, and with maternal roots in Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana currently manages Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. After finishing high school, she spent seven years working at Jacks of Fiji before opting to further her education, motivated by the memory of her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
“She was my inspiration. I wish she could be here to see my achievement,” Ms. Leana reflected.
Balancing her job, studies, and family obligations proved to be a significant challenge, yet Ms. Leana maintained her focus. “I opted out of social events and church services to dedicate time to assignments and studying. I would catch up on sermons through the radio later. My priority was to complete my degree,” she shared.
Describing the experience as mentally exhausting, Ms. Leana recounted sleepless nights dedicated to coursework and presentations, but she remained unwavering in her resolve. “Although it was challenging, all the effort invested paid off in the end,” she remarked.
She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family for their unwavering support, dedicating her success to her late sister, parents, and siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, shared her immense pride during the graduation ceremony. “Tears filled my eyes as I watched her walk across the stage to receive her certificate. It was a moment of profound pride. We faced numerous challenges, but with God’s strength, we persevered,” Ms. Tupou stated.
