Joshika Lata’s remarkable journey illustrates the power of resilience and the transformative nature of education. Recently appointed as the General Manager of the JP Bayly Trust—an organization dedicated to supporting those in need—her story serves as a source of inspiration for many facing adversity.

Lata’s educational path began in 1990 at the Frank Hilton School, a facility for students with disabilities. She faced considerable challenges due to a physical deformity in her arms and experienced bullying throughout her early school years. Nevertheless, she maintained a steadfast belief in the significance of education, stating, “Growing up in a poor family, I recognized the transformative power of education.” This conviction made her graduation a pivotal milestone, symbolizing a life-altering change.

After completing her secondary education at DAV College in Nabua, Lata pursued a diploma in business management at the Fiji Institute of Technology, graduating in 2005. She began her career as a spare parts clerk but quickly transitioned into accounting roles, inspired by her father’s strong work ethic. Balancing her job with full-time studies, she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fiji National University (FNU), further emphasizing her commitment to personal and professional growth.

In 2018, Lata joined the JP Bayly Trust as an accounts clerk. Her dedication and hard work led her to obtain a postgraduate degree by 2020, bringing her to various roles within the trust. In April 2024, she reached a significant career milestone when she was appointed General Manager during a board meeting, a moment that brought her to tears of joy, reflecting the culmination of years of perseverance.

Now in her role, Lata is deeply committed to mentoring others, especially young people who face similar obstacles. She believes that her experiences can inspire new recruits and youths to strive for success despite adversity. “I feel I can be a role model,” she affirms, highlighting the importance of education, experience, and exposure in achieving one’s goals.
