Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified remarkable resilience and determination on her path to success. Recently, the 26-year-old proudly graduated with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga and with family ties to Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana now oversees Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. After completing her high school education, she spent seven years working for Jacks of Fiji before opting to pursue further studies, motivated by the memory of her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Leana stated, “She was the one who motivated me. I wish she were here to witness my achievement.” Juggling work, studies, and family responsibilities proved to be a significant challenge. Ms. Leana dedicated herself to her studies by often skipping social events and church services to focus on completing assignments. She shared, “I’d listen to sermons on the radio later. My goal was to finish my degree.”
Describing her academic journey as mentally taxing, she recounted her numerous sleepless nights spent on assignments and presentations. However, she remained steadfast in her commitment. “A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it,” she concluded.
Ms. Leana expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family for their unwavering support, dedicating her success to her late sister, parents, and siblings. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, expressed profound pride during the graduation ceremony. “I cried watching her walk across the stage to receive her certificate. It was a proud moment. We faced many challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them,” she remarked.
