The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has issued a crucial notice to 14,661 tenants who are currently facing outstanding lease arrears, amounting to a considerable $16.7 million. The Board has emphasized the urgency for tenants to settle these overdue payments promptly to prevent potential legal consequences.

Isoa Tuwai, the general manager of Estate Services at TLTB, highlighted the significance of resolving these arrears swiftly. He stressed that timely payments are essential to avoid delays in lease payments to landowners. “We are dedicated to collaborating with our tenants to find solutions, but it is imperative that the arrears are cleared,” Tuwai stated.

Tuwai reminded tenants of their obligation to pay lease rentals and administrative fees on the designated dates, January 1 and July 1, each year, as outlined in their lease agreements. This practice not only helps in averting litigation but also enables the Board to ensure that lease payments are promptly distributed to landowners.

To accommodate tenants, TLTB is open to discussions regarding arrears recovery and accepts partial payments under certain conditions. Moreover, tenants are encouraged to seek financial support from commercial banks, as TLTB has previously arranged options for assistance.

All tenants are strongly urged to pay off their outstanding dues promptly, as failure to do so by November 30, 2024, may result in the listing of tenant names in media outlets, legal proceedings, and potentially the cancellation of leases. Tuwai also provided a contact number (990 8959) for any inquiries.

This situation presents an opportunity for tenants to take proactive steps in addressing their lease payments, fostering better communication with TLTB, and reinforcing their commitment to meeting their obligations. By prioritizing these payments, tenants can help ensure financial stability for both themselves and the landowners, thereby contributing to community prosperity.

In summary, the TLTB is urging tenants to act swiftly to address outstanding lease arrears. Their continued cooperation and communication can lead to positive outcomes for all parties involved.
