Loyal Fijian rugby supporter Kinisimere Rabulugaga, affectionately known as ‘Bu Kini’, was laid to rest in Saunaka village, Nadi, on June 4. She passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on May 31.

Bu Kini, originally from Waitolu in Naitasiri, was well-known for her warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to Fijian rugby. Her vibrant presence could be felt at various games, from local matches to international fixtures, where she sported her Fiji flag, and entertained crowds with her jokes and spirited comments. She was not just a fan; she was a fixture in the Fijian rugby community and a source of joy for those around her.

The significance of her passion extended beyond her attendance at games. Videos of her lively persona became popular on social media, showcasing why she was cherished by fans, both locally and globally. Eneri Varo, her only child, reminisced about how his mother always found a way to participate in events, regardless of her age. He fondly recalled instances where she insisted on attending the launch event of Fiji Airways in 2013, despite concerns for her well-being.

As her mental faculties began to decline, Eneri dedicated himself to caring for her, providing her with meals and companionship. The morning of her passing was typical, as he prepared breakfast for her, but the day took a solemn turn when he discovered she had quietly slipped away.

Her legacy as a loyal fan will not be forgotten, reminding those who knew her of the joy, laughter, and camaraderie that sports can foster. Bu Kini’s life is a testament to the vibrant spirit of Fijian culture and rugby passion, and she will be remembered fondly in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Rest in peace, Bu Kini. Your legacy of joy and loyalty to rugby will always inspire future generations of fans.
