Families, friends, and colleagues from the media industry gathered at the Girmit Multicultural Centre in Lautoka to honor the memory of Zanzeer Singh, a former senior sports journalist for The Fiji Times, who passed away at the age of 49. Emotional eulogies highlighted a life filled with love and purpose as mourners reflected on his legacy as a devoted father of two.
Ana Niumataiwalu, a former colleague and close friend, reminisced about Singh, affectionately known as “Zan,” describing him as a vibrant presence. She noted that he was not just a colleague but also a true friend, sharing that their last conversation had an optimistic undertone: “I will see you when I get back.”
Waisea Nasokia, the West editor for Fiji Sun, expressed profound admiration for Singh, highlighting his brilliance as a reporter and the respect he garnered throughout his media career. He praised Singh’s honesty, writing skills, and generous spirit, acknowledging that he had learned a great deal from him.
Nasokia described Singh as a remarkable individual with a big heart who always shared what he had with others, emphasizing that he was a legend in his own right. He extended his gratitude to Singh’s family for their care, reinforcing the notion of Singh’s resilience.
Mr. Singh dedicated 20 years of his career to The Fiji Times and was cremated at Lovu Cemetery following the memorial service.
