The late Minister for Agriculture, Vatimi Rayalu, is remembered as a devoted and principled leader who had a vision for a people-centered government. Sila Balawa, General Secretary of the People’s Alliance, honored Rayalu’s steadfast commitment to political change and national development, noting that he “walked the talk” in his endeavors.

Rayalu joined the People’s Alliance ahead of the 2022 General Election, focusing on new leadership ideals. Balawa reflected on Rayalu’s significant personal investment in the party’s campaign efforts, including covering expenses for transportation such as hiring a helicopter for the Prime Minister’s campaign trip to Lakeba in Lau.

Balawa emphasized that Rayalu had a profound impact on the agriculture sector, drawing from his extensive experience that began as an agricultural officer. His efforts led to substantial policy changes that benefitted farmers across the nation.

As the nation prepares for his final farewell, traditional mourning ceremonies will commence at the family’s residence on Wednesday, and the funeral service is scheduled for June 20, 2025, at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, followed by burial at the Old Suva Cemetery.

Rayalu’s legacy of passionate public service and commitment to elevating the agricultural sector has left an indelible mark on the communities he served. There is hope that his successor will continue the initiatives he championed, ensuring that his ideals of compassion and support for farmers endure within national policies.

The reflection on Rayalu’s achievements serves as a reminder of the importance of dedicated leadership in nurturing the agricultural landscape in Fiji, inspiring future leaders to uphold the values he demonstrated.
