The year-10 student, as the final runner, made a stunning comeback, edging out Nakasi High School by mere inches to capture the gold medal with a time of 4 minutes and 3.60 seconds.
Waqairawai expressed that his coach’s words motivated him throughout the race, emphasizing the importance of giving their best effort. “He just told us to give our best, and the result will come by itself,” Waqairawai recalled, highlighting his resilience as he focused on not disappointing his teammates.
