Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized the importance of embracing the values of truth, justice, and righteousness during the celebration of Deepavali, also known as Diwali. In his festive message, he reminded the people of Fiji to recognize the need for continuous vigilance to maintain the freedoms and rights that were restored with the election of the Coalition Government in December 2022.
Prasad highlighted the significance of Diwali transcending into everyday life, drawing inspiration from the 14-year exile of Lord Ram and his victorious return to Ayodhya. He likened the establishment of “Ram Rajya,” which stands for a government that is honest, transparent, and accountable, to the Coalition Government’s commitment to prioritize the well-being of its citizens.
Acknowledging that there were challenges faced during the government’s transition from a long-standing dictatorship, he compared these hurdles to the trials encountered by Lord Ram. He noted that every effort was made to undermine Ram’s journey towards peace and prosperity, emphasizing the need for strong leadership during difficult times.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged that the festival’s illuminating diyas, which guided Lord Ram back home, symbolize hope, peace, and glory. He reiterated the Coalition Government’s dedication to putting people’s needs first and highlighted the importance of long-term solutions over short-term fixes, reflecting the principles that Lord Ram embodied.
Prasad concluded by reiterating the Coalition Government’s commitment to engage in constructive dialogue, showcasing the political will necessary to reach consensus and drive sustainable progress for the nation.
In summary, Prasad’s message serves as a hopeful reminder for the Fijian people to draw upon the values exemplified by Lord Ram during Diwali, reinforcing a collective commitment to a brighter future based on principles of honesty, accountability, and selflessness. By fostering dialogue and consensus, the government aims to build a more prosperous and inclusive Fiji for all its citizens.
