The Ministry of Education has declared the reinstatement of interviews for Year 13 students that seek to enter teaching professions. This initiative is a collaborative effort involving Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). The aim is to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the significance of a stringent selection process to attract candidates who are not only qualified but driven by a passion for teaching. This move aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which focuses on fostering partnerships among stakeholders to enhance the education sector.

The declaration seeks to ensure graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in classrooms across the nation. Eligible students can apply for scholarships under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, covering various Bachelor of Education programs, including specialized fields like Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts.

The deadline for submitting online applications to the TSLS is January 31, 2025, with successful candidates being notified of interview schedules through email and phone.

This initiative marks a positive step towards improving the quality of education in Fiji and ensuring that future teachers are well-equipped to inspire and educate the next generation. By focusing on rigorous selection and training processes, the Ministry of Education is proactively addressing the needs of the education system, guaranteeing a brighter future for both educators and students alike.
