Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) is gearing up to create a comprehensive rehabilitation center designed for families, according to its executive director, Reverend Hemraj Mangal. In an interview with The Fiji Times online portal, Mangal highlighted the organization’s ambitious plan to construct four dormitories. Once completed, these facilities will increase the center’s capacity to house up to 80 students, a significant leap from its current capability of accommodating just two students, with space for 12 more.
Mangal emphasized the intention to build a dedicated men’s center for those over 18 years. The approach will be phased, with each dormitory being designed to host 20 students. Moreover, the organization also aims to establish a women’s and children’s center, following the same structure for student accommodation.
Looking ahead, Mangal mentioned the opportunity for future expansion, contingent on funding availability. He noted, “By God’s grace, we believe, we trust the funds will be made available,” reflecting optimism about the support for this initiative. He also expressed a pressing need for such facilities, citing the number of individuals struggling with drug addiction and substance abuse as a critical issue within the community.
In terms of preparation, the staff of Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) have undertaken several training programs since 2014. The organization works in conjunction with Global Teen Challenge, which operates in 140 countries and manages over 1,400 centers worldwide, providing essential resources, teaching materials, and training.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of rehabilitation services and support for individuals battling addiction. With the right resources and community backing, Adult and Teen Challenge (Fiji) is poised to make a significant impact in improving lives and fostering recovery.
Overall, the establishment of a fully-fledged rehabilitation center is a hopeful step toward creating a supportive environment for those in need of recovery, emphasizing the importance of community and accessibility in addressing issues of substance abuse.
