The Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, is urging parents to register their children with the Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) Registry ahead of the new school year. While visiting Bua for the launch of BDM services at various locations, including Post Fiji Shops in Kubulau, Wainunu, Lekutu, and Nabouwalu, he emphasized the importance of official registration for every child.
Mr. Turaga highlighted that each child is part of a family, and parents have a responsibility to ensure their offspring are registered. The ministry’s decision to decentralize these services aims to make them more accessible to the public, removing barriers such as distance and financial constraints that have previously hindered parental registration efforts.
He noted the significance of child registration for effective governmental policy-making, as it allows the government to understand the population dynamics better, enabling them to plan accordingly. With services now available locally, residents of Bua no longer need to travel to far-off towns, making the process more convenient.
This initiative not only fosters a sense of responsibility among parents but also strengthens community ties by ensuring that every child is recognized by the government, which can lead to improved support and resources for families.
Summary: The Justice Minister urges parents to register their children with the BDM Registry before school starts, promoting accessibility through decentralized services. This step is crucial for effective government planning and emphasizes parental responsibility.
