The 2024 Bounty Reggae Christmas Festival is set to take place on December 21 at Buckhurst and Bidesi parks in Suva, promising a lively celebration of music that will attract attendees from diverse backgrounds. Among the standout performances will be by Tana Music, a talented group of emerging musicians who are steadily making their mark in the music industry.
Harry Levy, the guitarist and leader of Tana Music, shared his enthusiasm about finally being able to perform at the festival after nearly two years of anticipation. “We really are super excited. We’ve waited almost two years, maybe three now, since we first formed,” he expressed. The band has been diligently preparing for this moment, traveling back and forth to Nadi in anticipation of the big day.
As they gear up for the festival, Levy noted that this would be a unique opportunity for the band to showcase their reggae influences, which they haven’t explored extensively despite their fondness for alternate rock, pop, afro beat, country classics, and island reggae. “It’s going to be challenging but it will also be interesting for the band,” he said.
Tana Music was established in 2021 when Levy transitioned from being a solo artist to leading a group after others expressed interest in joining him during the pandemic lockdowns. The band’s name, ‘Tana,’ originated in a light-hearted jam session among friends, further solidifying a sense of camaraderie and fun.
Levy’s passion for music is matched by his commitment to provide employment opportunities for young, talented artists who may be struggling to find work. “My family plays a huge role as well, especially my kids, they are my motivation,” he said. He passionately encourages the community to attend the reggae festival, emphasizing that their presence supports not just their music but also contributes to building opportunities for aspiring artists.
In summary, the festive atmosphere of the Bounty Reggae Christmas Festival, combined with the commitment from bands like Tana Music, signifies a bright future for the local music scene and the potential for community engagement in socio-economic development through the arts. This festival is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local talent and celebrate the vibrant culture of reggae music. All are invited to join in the excitement and support a meaningful cause while enjoying great music.
