Anthony Taylor, who faced social media abuse after handing out a record 14 yellow cards during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth, will not officiate any Premier League matches this weekend. Instead, Taylor will serve as the fourth official in two games, while the Premier League looks into the online harassment, according to the referees’ organization, PGMOL.
He is scheduled to be on duty for the Southampton vs. Ipswich match on Saturday and the Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Nottingham Forest game on Sunday. The PGMOL explained that referees do not officiate every week; they rotate roles including refereeing, serving as fourth officials, and performing video assistant referee duties.
