Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levastam, is poised to be the frontrunner in the highly anticipated Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, set to kick off this weekend. This inaugural tournament is organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, marking a significant milestone in Fiji’s fishing calendar.
Among the talented competitors are renowned anglers such as Jared Wood of Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith representing Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and the experienced Marc McElrath. Christina Valente from Sidestep will be the standout female competitor in the event.
Coordinator Glenn Wakeman expressed excitement over the turnout, with both local and international anglers eager to take part. He highlighted the winners will not only receive a cash prize of $10,000 but also an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025.
The tournament will be staged at the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, adjacent to Sails Restaurant, and promises plenty of opportunities for participants to win various prizes across categories, including those for species, individual anglers, and boats.
With the stakes high, top prizes include the Champion Team trophy accompanied by the cash prize, as well as individual awards for Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, alongside a Last Man Standing prize.
Currently, Team Flame Tree leads the season’s team rankings with 2313.7 points, followed closely by Ice T with 2278.4 points, and other teams like Hoodlum, Lunasea, Rawhiti, and Sere Na Ua trailing behind. Individually, Jared Wood leads the angler standings with 1771.8 points, followed by Levastam and Punja.
