The Queensland Reds have announced their Super Rugby Pacific squad for the 2025 season, featuring a blend of experienced players and emerging talent. Among the newcomers are Australian Under-20 stars Trevor King and Will McCulloch, who will be joined by Jude Gibbs, a versatile 23-year-old utility player.
The squad includes 19 players with significant Test experience, comprising 18 Wallabies and former All Blacks prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen. Notably, 12 players have each played over 50 matches for the Reds. Co-captain Tate McDermott leads the way with 91 caps as the team prepares for what’s expected to be a competitive season.
The returning duo of Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Filipo Daugunu are set to make an impact after rejoining the team. Other signings include Lachie Anderson, Josh Canham, Matt Gibbon, and Mason Gordon, all of whom have already started their integration into the squad through the Reds’ International Program.
Head coach Les Kiss expressed enthusiasm about the squad’s evolution and depth, emphasizing the need for hard work and preparation for the challenges ahead. He highlighted the importance of the Academy in fostering young talent and providing players like King and McCulloch the opportunity to advance their careers.
McCulloch, who recently shone for the Australian U20s, shared his excitement about joining the Reds and their fast-paced playing style. King has impressive experience as a tighthead prop for the Australian U20s and hopes to continue building on his skills.
Gibbs, who has been recognized for his strong performance in the Shute Shield, is eager to fulfill his long-held dream of playing in Super Rugby. He plans to move to Brisbane soon to prepare for the season.
The Reds will kick off their 2025 campaign against Moana Pasifika on February 21, following pre-season matches in Europe.
As the Queensland Reds embark on this journey, there is hope for a successful season driven by a combination of seasoned players and promising young talent. With their strong foundation and commitment to development, fans can look forward to an exciting year of rugby ahead.
