The Queensland Reds have officially unveiled their Super Rugby Pacific squad for the 2025 season, featuring promising talents Trevor King and Will McCulloch, both of whom have made impressive strides in Australian rugby. A total of 19 players with international experience have been included in the lineup, among them 18 Wallabies and former All Blacks prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen. Notably, twelve players have surpassed 50 appearances for the Reds, including co-captain Tate McDermott, who heads into the season with 91 caps for Queensland.
The returning Wallabies, lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and outside back Filipo Daugunu, bring valuable experience back to the squad after off-season signings. New recruits such as Lachie Anderson, Josh Canham, Matt Gibbon, and Mason Gordon have already begun their integration through the Reds International Program.
Among the roster updates, 19-year-old prop Trevor King, 20-year-old fullback-winger Will McCulloch, and 23-year-old utility back Jude Gibbs stand out, having yet to make their debuts for the Reds. The Reds International Program has played a crucial role in preparing young talent like centre Dre Pakeho, who has been honing skills by playing against international competition despite not yet debuting in Super Rugby Pacific.
Head coach Les Kiss expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, emphasizing the team’s evolution and depth. He praised King and McCulloch for stepping up from the Buildcorp Reds Academy and highlighted the importance of this program in developing young players.
Kiss noted that Gibbs has also been on their radar due to his strong performances in the Shute Shield competition. With a versatile skill set, Gibbs is expected to add depth to the Reds’ game plan.
Both McCulloch and King are excited about the opportunity ahead of them. McCulloch, reflecting on the success of other Academy graduates, expressed a desire to contribute to the Reds’ fast-paced and dynamic playing style. King, having already played two years at U20s level, is looking forward to showcasing his talent at a higher level.
Gibbs shared his long-held dream of joining a Super Rugby club, expressing gratitude for his development at Northern Suburbs and an eagerness to grow further with the Reds.
The Reds will kick off their 2025 campaign against Moana Pasifika on February 21 after a two-week pre-season that includes matches against European clubs Bristol and Ulster.
As the Reds solidify their roster, the blend of seasoned veterans and emerging young talents bodes well for an exciting season ahead, filled with opportunities for both personal and team growth. The team’s commitment to developing the next generation of rugby stars is a promising sign for the future of Australian rugby.
