The Queensland Reds have officially announced their squad for the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, featuring an exciting mix of seasoned players and emerging Australian Under-20 talents like Trevor King and Will McCulloch. The squad boasts 19 players with test experience, including 18 former Wallabies and ex-All Blacks prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, showcasing a strong foundation of skill and experience.
Notably, twelve athletes have accrued over 50 caps for the Reds, highlighting their commitment and longevity with the team. This includes co-captain Tate McDermott, who is set to start the season with 91 Queensland appearances. The return of experienced Wallabies Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Filipo Daugunu adds further depth to the roster, along with new signings such as Lachie Anderson, Josh Canham, Matt Gibbon, and Mason Gordon, who have already gained valuable experience through the Reds International Program.
Rugby newcomers King and McCulloch, alongside 23-year-old Jude Gibbs from Sydney’s Northern Suburbs club, represent the fresh talent in the squad. Young center Dre Pakeho has also honed his skills through international matches, preparing him for his anticipated debut in Super Rugby Pacific.
Head coach Les Kiss expressed enthusiasm for the evolving squad, emphasizing the importance of hard work and readiness to face challenges in the upcoming season. He is particularly pleased to see young players step up from the Buildcorp Reds Academy, with McCulloch excited about the opportunity to contribute to the team’s fast-paced gameplay. King, with two years already under his belt with the Australian U20s, and Gibbs, who sees this transition to Super Rugby as a significant milestone in his career, are both eager to make a mark.
The Reds will kick off their 2025 season against Moana Pasifika on February 21, following pre-season matches in Europe against Bristol and Ulster. This fresh and dynamic squad aims to build on its strengths and embrace the challenges ahead in what promises to be an exhilarating season.
