The Fiji Red Cross Society is actively assisting communities in the western region of the country that have been impacted by recent flooding. They emphasize the critical importance of clean water during this crisis, as it significantly reduces the risk of diseases, including typhoid and diarrhea, which tend to spike in such situations.
In response to the urgent water needs identified at evacuation centers in Nadi, Fiji Red Cross collaborated with Frezco Beverages Pte Ltd. This partnership resulted in the donation of 100 cartons of 1.5-liter Fijian Artesian Water, aimed at providing much-needed hydration to affected families.
Volunteers from the Fiji Red Cross in Tavua have also mobilized to support those taking shelter at the Tavua District School evacuation center. They are distributing dignity kits and essential relief supplies, known as black packs, to help the families rebuild their stability post-disaster.
Beyond the provision of these physical supplies, volunteers are conducting educational sessions aimed at preventing the spread of diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dengue Fever, Diarrhea, and Typhoid, further enhancing community resilience during this challenging time.
This collaborative effort highlights the invaluable role of community support and the dedication of organizations like the Fiji Red Cross in times of crisis, fostering hope and recovery among the affected families.
A positive element to note is the community spirit demonstrated through these initiatives. The quick mobilization of resources and the active role of volunteers showcase the strength and solidarity within the Fijian community, which can inspire further support and resilience in facing future challenges.
