The Tailevu Zone Athletics competition is proving to be a thrilling event, as three records have already been set, with two being broken just yesterday. These new benchmarks come exclusively from field events.
Sidney Eta from Dawasamu Secondary School excelled in the senior girls’ long jump, leaping an impressive 4.80 meters, which surpassed the previous 4.75 meters record that had stood for seven years, held by Vakasimili Litiana of Wainibuka Secondary School. Meanwhile, Kalokalo Anamaria from Tailevu North College made headlines in the sub-junior girls’ javelin event, launching her throw to a distance of 27.65 meters. This achievement broke the existing record of 26.44 meters that was formerly held by Vetinia Vakacegu of Dawasamu Secondary School.
Additionally, Esira Batisoso from Ratu Kadavulevu School shattered the intermediate boys’ shot put record with a throw measuring 14.57 meters, outdoing the previous record of 14.03 meters, set by Nathaniel Tuilaucala of RKS in 2019.
These accomplishments highlight the remarkable talent and perseverance of these young athletes, reflecting a bright future for athletics in Fiji. Their performances not only inspire fellow competitors but also foster a strong spirit of camaraderie among schools participating in the competition.
