A historic payment of $105.08 per tonne, marking the highest payout in Fiji’s sugar industry, will be distributed to cane farmers this Diwali.

The Minister for Sugar Industry, Charan Jeath Singh, emphasized that this exceptional support signifies more than just financial assistance; it embodies the government’s strong commitment to the dedication and resilience of every farmer.

He acknowledged the difficulties farmers encounter and stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, the government has increased the initial payment by $2.57, now totaling $4 per tonne.

“This Diwali, we are fulfilling our promise to empower farmers, ease their burdens, and acknowledge their daily contributions to Fiji,” Singh remarked.

He further noted that this landmark payment reflects the Coalition Government’s commitment to fostering a future in which the sugar industry flourishes, improving farmers’ livelihoods and recognizing their hard work.
