Internet speeds in the country may be experiencing some slowdowns as data consumption surges significantly. According to Rajnesh Prasad, the Regional Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone, the increase in data usage is primarily responsible for the occasional slower internet speeds that customers are facing.

Prasad highlighted that December marked a record high for data usage within the company, and early indications suggest that usage figures for last month are likely to exceed even those records once finalized. He noted, “The demand for data is increasing rapidly across multiple areas, with households utilizing two or more devices. As we observe this surge in data usage, we are committed to upgrading our network infrastructure. Our efforts include enhancing both our 5G and 4G networks to ensure that customers can fully enjoy our services.”

Fijians are consuming more data than ever, driven largely by increased streaming, social media interaction, and various online activities. In response to the rising demand, Vodafone is actively monitoring network performance and is prepared to implement capacity reviews and necessary enhancements to accommodate continued growth in data consumption.

This proactive approach by Vodafone reflects a commitment to improving customer experience despite the rising challenges, indicating a hopeful trajectory towards better internet services in the future.
