Hansel McCaig, a talented swimmer and Pacific Gold medallist, delivered an impressive performance at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships held in Budapest. Competing in the 100m Individual Medley, McCaig finished fifth in his heat, achieving a personal best time of 50.47 seconds, which also established a new Fiji National Record.

At only 20 years old, McCaig’s exceptional reaction time of 0.58 seconds off the blocks helped him gain an advantage over his competitors. He maintained a strong pace throughout the race, clocking remarkable split times of 11.13 seconds, 12.68 seconds, 13.29 seconds, and 13.37 seconds in the final lap.
