Record-Breaking Streak: Wainiqolo Shatters Defenders Beaten Record!

Fiji Water Flying Fijians winger Jiuta Wainiqolo set a new record for the most defenders beaten in a single match, surpassing 19 defenders during his team’s 30-17 victory over Montpellier over the weekend. This achievement, recognized by Opta and RugbyPass, marks a new high across the four major rugby competitions: Top 14, Super Rugby, URC, and Premiership.

The 25-year-old, who is also an Olympic 7s gold medallist, showcased his skills by covering a total distance of 155 meters during the match, completing 10 carries and making 2 clean line breaks. Wainiqolo capped off his impressive performance with a brilliant solo try, collecting a loose ball from halfway, evading several defenders to score in Round 7 of the French Top 14 competition.

In another highlight for Fijian rugby, Olympic gold medallist Sireli Maqala contributed to his Bayonne club’s 32-15 win over Racing 92, the team featuring fellow Fijian Josua Tuisova. Additionally, Fijian player Adrea Cocagi received a red card for a high elbow incident as Castres triumphed over Stade Francais with a score of 35-13.
