Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), recently celebrated the successful conclusion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament, which took place last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. This year marked the tournament’s third consecutive year, drawing in enthusiasts from various backgrounds and raising an impressive $33,420, setting a new record for funds collected.
The event’s impressive fundraising went beyond previous years’ totals, which included $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022. This increase highlights not only the growing commitment to the cause but also the incredible generosity shown by the participants. The funds raised will significantly bolster the Fiji Cancer Society’s outreach initiatives, improve available resources, and enhance support services available to cancer patients. A key focus will be to acquire essential equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and treatment.
In support of proactive health measures, the tournament also aligned with the Movember initiative, providing free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screenings in partnership with the Ministry of Health, thereby promoting the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
Telecom Fiji’s CEO, Charles Goundar, expressed his pride in supporting such a meaningful cause, emphasizing that the tournament transcends mere competition—it is a commitment to combating cancer within the community. Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, echoed these sentiments, acknowledging how the interplay of sports and cancer awareness can resonate deeply with individuals, each swing representing progress in the fight against cancer.
Overall, the event not only marks a successful fundraising effort but also strengthens community ties and fosters awareness about cancer prevention and treatment.
The collaboration between Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Cancer Society exemplifies how corporate and nonprofit partnerships can create positive change, demonstrating a collective effort to improve health outcomes in the community.
