Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), proudly announced the successful conclusion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament, which took place last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
Entering its third year, this eagerly awaited event gathered enthusiastic golfers, community figures, and supporters, achieving a remarkable fundraising total of $33,420—setting a new record. This year’s contributions exceeded previous totals of $25,137 in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022, showcasing the growing impact and the goodwill of the participants.
The generous funds raised will enable the Fiji Cancer Society to broaden its outreach efforts, enhance resources, and strengthen patient support services. This includes acquiring essential equipment for cancer testing, diagnosis, and treatment. In alignment with the Movember initiative, the tournament also provided free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings in partnership with the Ministry of Health, highlighting the significance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
Charles Goundar, CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed his appreciation, stating, “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.”
Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the importance of the event, noting, “Cancer awareness through sports resonates deeply with many people. Every swing at this tournament represents a step toward reducing the burden of cancer in our communities. We are truly grateful for the generous support from Telecom Fiji and all our sponsors who made this event possible.”
In conclusion, this charity golf tournament not only raised significant funds for cancer support but also brought the community together in a spirited and impactful way. With ongoing support from corporations like Telecom Fiji, initiatives like these play a vital role in the fight against cancer and enhance public health awareness in Fiji.
