Telecom Fiji Limited, in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS), recently celebrated the successful completion of the annual Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament, which took place last month at the Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. This event, now in its third consecutive year, attracted enthusiastic golfers, community leaders, and supporters, and raised an impressive $33,420, setting a new record for the tournament.
This year’s fundraising total exceeded previous years, with $25,137 raised in 2023 and $19,288 in 2022. Such growth underscores the event’s increasing impact and the generosity of its participants. The funds gathered will be utilized by the Fiji Cancer Society to enhance outreach programs, improve resources, and provide better patient support services, which includes purchasing essential equipment for cancer testing and diagnosis.
Additionally, the tournament aligned with the Movember initiative by offering free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) screenings in partnership with the Ministry of Health, underscoring the importance of early detection in preventive healthcare.
Charles Goundar, the CEO of Telecom Fiji, expressed appreciation for being part of this meaningful cause, stating, “Supporting the Fiji Cancer Society is an honor for Telecom Fiji. This tournament is more than just a game—it’s a community commitment to fighting cancer. We’re proud to stand with FCS in making a tangible difference.”
Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the significance of the event, remarking, “Cancer awareness through sports resonates deeply with many people. Every swing at this tournament represents a step toward reducing the burden of cancer in our communities. We are truly grateful for the generous support from Telecom Fiji and all our sponsors who made this event possible.”
This initiative illustrates the potential for community involvement in health advocacy, showcasing how events like the Charity Golf Tournament can raise both awareness and funds for critical health issues.
**Summary:** Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Cancer Society successfully held the Telecom Fiji Charity Golf Tournament, raising a record $33,420 to support cancer care and awareness.
