“Rebuilding Trust: Fiji Police Chief Calls for Change Amid Corruption Concerns”

Acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew stated that the Fiji Police Force itself is not corrupt, attributing the negative perception to the actions of a few individuals. During a medal award ceremony at the Fiji Police Academy, Chew urged officers to focus on improving public perception by demonstrating high standards of conduct in their work.

Chew acknowledged the appreciation he has received for the officers’ work, but emphasized that these positive messages are overshadowed by negative incidents when an officer faces charges. He expressed that he welcomes criticism, believing that police officers have the potential to change for the better.

He encouraged the officers to see each day as a chance to improve, not only for themselves and their families but also for the community they serve. To emphasize dedication to service, Chew awarded several medals, including the Fiji Police Medal, the Fiji Police Long Service Medal, and the Fiji Police Overseas Service Medals to officers from various units within the Police Force.
